Integrity first
A repair recommendation should make sense. We explain the problem and the options before moving forward.
Our history
An independent Wilmington transmission shop built on specialized knowledge and a commitment to explaining the work clearly—since 1980.

A local legacy
Wilbur Hales founded Econo Transmission, Inc. in 1980 with the determination to build a shop known for integrity.
When Wilbur retired in 1994, Darryl Keels—who had already worked beside him for seven years—stepped in as owner. The leadership changed, but the standard did not. Econo remained focused on careful diagnosis, skilled work and treating customers with respect.
Today, the shop continues to serve Wilmington drivers, business fleets and local municipalities with the same practical approach: find the real problem, explain it clearly and recommend the right work for the vehicle.
What has kept us here
A repair recommendation should make sense. We explain the problem and the options before moving forward.
Transmission work is complex. Our technicians stay current as mechanical and electronic systems evolve.
Every vehicle and every driver is different. The solution should fit the actual problem—not a template.
Prepared for complex work
Our shop works across a broad range of domestic and foreign vehicles, from traditional units to modern electronically controlled transmissions.
